The International Association for the Advancement of Peace,is a not-for-profit organization, created to promote those


values actions and policies that enhance intrapersonal, interpersonal, community and societal peace.  The Association


utilizes multidisciplinary, multicultural and multidimensional paradigms and models of support to build stable and


sustainable environments that humanly encompass all citizens. We support resiliency models for all helping agents and


agencies who do this work on any and all levels.  IAAP builds upon the knowledge of many peace building fields and


presents this knowledge through a biannual newsletter; lectures;seminars; conferences; workshops; as well as continuing


education and home study courses.

                Mission Statement

Michelle Handwerker Ph.D. LMT CAAT, has a doctorate with high honors in Wholistic Nutrition from the Clayton College of Natural Health.  She is an advanced practitioner of Amma Therapeutic Massage, licensed in massage in N.Y. and practicing since 1976.  She was one of eight people who was personally trained by the creator of the art Tina Sohn, a "healing sensitive."  Her study and training was as an apprentice to Mrs. Sohn from 1971-1988 a very long and intimate relationship that involved study on many levels and much inner work. 

Dr. Handwerker holds a black belt in Tang Soo Do karate;  Her Ph.D. dissertation is entitle "Balance is Health, the multidimensional nature of healing and health"

Steven E. Handwerker Ph.D. D.Div received his doctorate degree from New York University and a post doctoral certificate from Hofstra University.   He is licensed in Psychology in N.Y., South Dakota and Florida.  He started practice in 1976 as the head of psychological services at "The Wholistic Health Center" an institution which he and his wife dedicated almost 2 decades to assist developing.  The four year degree program in alternate health care methods continues in Syosset N.Y.  

Dr. Handwerker was the first membership chair of the division of Peace Psychology in the American Psychological Association (APA) and is a member of the Scientific and Professional board of the Institute of Crisis Management, a division of Homeland Security.  Dr. Handwerker has been a Supreme Court family mediator since 2000 helping families and community and corporate groups to build peaceful compromise solutions.

Dr Handwerker has authored two books and many articles.  He lectures regularly at APA conventions(over 100 in the past 15 years) and local colleges and interfaith organizations on the subject of Humanistic Psychology and Peace, as well as Humanitarian and Sustainable interventions and paradigms.

Dr. Handwerker is a practitioner of Tang Soo Do karate. He holds a fourth degree black belt.  He is a Reiki master and serves an international Reiki circle.  He and his wife have been married for almost four decades (Sept. 2014) and they have two children: Diana and Lucas.
